Friend, be kind. Not just to those around you, but to yourself. Be gentle. Be patient. No one knows better than you what you’ve been through, what kindness and patience you need. You offer those things so willingly to others. It’s okay to treat yourself with the same amount of love. You should.

Deep breath. Let yourself slow down. Take stock of each good thing as you breathe in calm. Friends, family, shelter, kindness, food, peace, puppies, music, down to the tiniest thing. Breathe in knowledge of each piece until you are fortified by mindfulness of the many good things in your life.

You are in control of your actions, and while some days your thoughts may do what they please, they are still yours.
You are worthy of love and kindness. Do not withhold it from yourself. It is okay to love yourself, to be kind to yourself.
You are valid. Your thoughts and feelings. Your person. You are valid.

Listen, I know it gets dark. I know how hard things can be. You’ve seen some terrible things. You’ve lived some terrible things. You’ve heard some terrible things. I know, and I am so sorry. Know that there is good. There are moments and seconds and minutes and days filled with joy and peace. There are people who love you. There are kindnesses. There are strangers who hold doors. There are children who say goofy things. There are puppies. There are flowers. There are good things. Don’t let yourself lose sight of those moments. Treasure them. Let them carry you through the badness. You can get through this.
